Goats

Thinking of keeping a goat? This information is provided by Alan Butcher of the Devon Goat Society (01803 813681) and is intended as a broad and brief guideline only. **PLEASE NOTE** the telephone number for Alan Butcher on the linked pdf document in incorrect, so please use the number shown on this page.

We have a number of goats available for sponsorship - please contact Lin if you would like any further information (contact details are at the foot of this page).

We are not the only sanctuary dedicated to the welfare of goats. Goats Galore sanctuary in Hereford and Worcester provides much needed care for sick, mistreated, and unwanted animals. Their website has some great links to other goat rescue centre and societies. Why not pay their site a visit and find out more!

Goats for re-homing direct

If you need to re-home a goat, or are can offer a goat a home, please email or telephone Lin with your details. She will use her knowledge and expertise to put people in contact with each other.

WARNING re. goat re-homing - be on your guard for the meat-man

We suspect that our goat re-homing page is being browsed by someone (or several people) looking for goats for meat. At least two people using our re-homing service appear to have been targeted in this way. Please do not let this deter you from using our service as we have found wonderful, loving homes for many goats, but when approached by someone offering a new home ALWAYS ask for a vets reference, and make detailed equiries about the potential new home. It's galling for us that our service is being abused in this way, but we hope that by drawing attention to we'll reduce the risk of it happening in the future.

25/7/14:

Sadly one of these goats has died suddenly, so a home is needed for the remaining goat URGENTLY

21/05/2014 Looe, Cornwall Loving 'forever' home needed for two horned goats, turned 5 this April. The female is called Sunshine, she is adorable and loves a good scratch. The male is called Juniper, he loves to be smoothed, especially around his face and is castrated. Both love the company of ponies and people. They have spent the last few years in a paddock next to a camp site and so love lots of attention. Both can be very characterful and need a home with loving owners who understand that goats do butt, more so when they are excited.
Both goats have been with their present owner from 6 months old. They become very attached and need new 'parents', who will love and care for them. Both goats have tags, and come from land with a holder's number.

21/05/2014 South Molton, Devon A 5 year old Pygmy billy needs a new home. He's castrated but horned and feisty, and would benefit from being in a small herd rather than a single companion goat. Please contact only if you are an experienced goat keeper with room for one more, and can offer a 'forever' home.
